Calamine, a combination of zinc oxide (ZnO) and 0.5% ferric oxide (Fe2O3), is widely used in dermatology as a soothing agent. Safe for children and infants and used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, its additional beneficial ingredients make it even more effective for managing different dermatoses. For example, the aqueous component of calamine lotion evaporates upon application, creating a cooling effect that soothes and relieves itching. In addition, its ability to spread quickly and evenly makes it suitable for large surfaces.
